Another Albuquerque police officer under investigation in the DWI corruption probe has resigned from the department.

Gilbert Gallegos, an APD spokesperson, said Honorio Alba was scheduled to be interviewed for the Internal Affairs investigation today but he resigned rather than be interviewed.

Alba is the second officer to resign while under investigation — Lt. Justin Hunt resigned earlier this month. Alba was named the 2023 Officer of the Year for Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

“The IA investigations will continue regardless of resignations,” Gallegos said.

The department launched its internal investigation after the news of a federal investigation into several officers and defense attorney Thomas Clear III — who is known for representing defendants charged with DWI — became public.

The other officers under internal investigation are: Joshua Montaño, Harvey Johnson, Nelson Ortiz and Cmdr. Mark Landavazo in the Internal Affairs Division. They have all been put on administrative leave. An Internal Affairs lieutenant is also being investigated internally and has been transferred to another unit while that investigation continues.
