Spring has sprung, and city leaders want community members to come out and celebrate the return of warm weather while learning about the city’s summer programs for kids.

Saturday’s Spring into Summer event will include music, food trucks, games and animals in need of homes.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

WHEN: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 27
WHERE: Barelas Community Center, 801 Barelas Rd. SW.

“Every year, we look forward to seeing our community out enjoying the weather and learning about youth and family programs across the city,” said Cristin Chavez-Smith, leader of One ABQ: Youth Connect. “It is key that our kids have safe places to grow and play, and we are here to help everyone find a program that meets their needs.”

Mayor Tim Keller has included $140,000 for One ABQ: Youth Connect’s summer recreation programs in his proposed budget for fiscal year 2025.

“Having a variety of affordable, fun summer programs is so important to our Albuquerque families,” Keller said in a news release. “Keeping our youth engaged while they are out of school is important to their safety and well-being, and we look forward to another summer of fun and learning at our city facilities.”

Programs all over town

The city of Albuquerque provides full-day free or low-cost summer programs at 17 community centers, two multigenerational centers, select Albuquerque Public Schools locations, and the Open Space Visitor Center, the release states.

There will also be partial-day camps and classes at the ABQ BioPark, Albuquerque Museum, Explora and public libraries.
