Bernalillo County officials unveiled a new 572-square-foot mural in the South Valley Thursday. “Glimpses of Our Barrios” by the artist, Paz, is part of the ongoing renovations on Bridge Boulevard, near Tower Road.

The artwork — a combination of clay tiles and painted images — represents scenes of the Southwest Mesa and the South Valley, according to a press release from the county. Students from nearby schools helped make the clay pieces.

The project was commissioned in October 2021 and had a budget of $50,000. It was funded by the Bernalillo County Art in Public Places ordinance, which recently increased public art funding from 1% of the county’s general obligation bonds to 1.5%.
