Two people fighting, birds scattering and a truck T-boning a gold Ford Mustang.

That’s what can be seen on surveillance video footage released by the Albuquerque Police Department of Chief Harold Medina getting into a crash Saturday morning.

The incident lasted only seconds as Chief Medina and his wife were driving to a press conference on East Central.

Medina said he and his wife saw a fight on the street corner of Alvarado Drive NE and Central Avenue. As Medina went to radio in the fight, he said he heard his wife say “Gun! Gun!” and then a shot rang out.

At minute mark 1:10 in the video, viewers can see a fight between two people on the corner of Central and Alvarado NE. Then, a shot was fired at 1:20.

In his statement about the incident released Tuesday Medina said after the shot was fired, he evaluated the situation for a second, before driving into the intersection.

The surveillance video shows Medina’s truck drive through the intersection and crash into another vehicle—a Ford Mustang—while the two people involved in the altercation run away from each other in opposite directions.

APD has said the man driving the Mustang was critically injured but is expected to fully recover.
