Share news of your investment in bettering our city.

City Desk is a news project of the Citizens Media Group serving Albuquerque and Bernalillo County.

As a nonprofit, we do not accept advertising but we love our sponsors and underwriters! We rely on community support from readers, corporations and other nonprofits who share our commitment to understanding and enhancing civic engagement and outcomes to better our community.

Sponsorship options.

Most sponsors designate their donation for general support so that City Desk can have the resources to adapt to changing and breaking news interests in the city over a long period of time.

We may occasionally accept proposals for underwriting for a specific beat or reporting project if it meets our mission and advances public understanding or engagement in an important local issue.

General Support.

  • Financial or professional services supporting the overall mission of City Desk. Funds are not earmarked for a specific project.
  • Sponsor receives recognition across all daily news products and online on our website.

Underwriting.

  • Financial support for a specific project, such as a series on a topic or underwriting coverage of a specific beat.
  • The sponsor is recognized on all stories supported by the sponsor.
  • Sponsor can work with the publisher to set the parameters for the project, but the sponsor has no influence over the editorial content.

Sponsor recognition.

We appreciate individuals and institutions supporting our work.

If requested, we will communicate your support to our subscribers and readers through our newsletters and website.

Sponsors may elect not to promote their support in our news products, but in order to meet transparency standards for nonprofit news outlets we disclose the names of all donors who contribute $5,000 or more to our work in a calendar year. Our professional ethics require us to maintain a firewall between editorial content and donors. Sponsors are not permitted to influence or exercise any control over editorial products.

Read more about our transparency and disclosures policy here.

Sponsor recognition options include:

  1. Website in-line static or moveable banners featuring your brand, logo or statement of support.
  2. Newsletter in-line static or moveable banners featuring your brand, logo or statement of support.
  3. An open editorial, sponsored content section or letter profiling philanthropic work by your firm and employees serving our community. (“Bank of Nob Hill says Thank You to our employees who collected Toys for Tots!”)
  4. Sponsored newsletters or topic-specific sections (underwriting a specific topic such as business or education coverage).

How is nonprofit sponsorship different than traditional advertising?

Much like other nonprofit and public media outlets, we are not allowed to accept traditional transactional advertising (the sponsor cannot profit directly from the ad). Instead, sponsors can promote their brand, employees and contributions to the community in advertisements on our newsletters and website.

You may be familiar with other sponsorships on PBS or NPR such as:

  • “Local Motors is proud to support local journalism”
  • Old Town Trinkets encourages everyone to learn more about our city and participate in making it better”
  • “Legal Beagle Law Firm LLP is New Mexico’s top-rated personal injury firm. Contact us to learn more about your rights.”

Allowed.

  • Your brand, logo, website
  • Branding statements such as “Top Rated Firm in ABQ” or “Proud to support civic engagement and local news”
  • Reviews or recommendations from clients.

Not-allowed.

  • “Now selling widgets 50% off”
  • “Lowest price”
  • Advertisement using words such as “buy” “sale” “invest” or similar words designed to solicit a sale or profit from a reader

We can provide in-house graphic design and digital campaign experts to help craft your sponsorship statements.
