As the first presidential debate of the 2024 election year concluded, City Desk ABQ watched how politicians in New Mexico reacted.

U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich shared “Trump is not the one who got the price of insulin down for seniors.”

U.S. Rep. Melanie Stansbury emphasized, “We need a leader in the White House, not a tyrant.”

The Democratic Party of New Mexico said “President Biden continues to deliver landmark achievements that directly benefit New Mexican Families.”

N.M. Speaker of the House Javier Martinez (D-N.M.) said “Tonight’s debate was a stark reminder of all that is at stake this November.”

Former U.S. Rep. Yvette Herrell (R-N.M.) asked “Does Gabe Vasquez believe Joe Biden should be his party’s nominee and the President for the next four years?”

The Republican Party of New Mexico stated “New Mexicans would see a boost to their bank accounts, a secured border, and strong leadership on a global scale promoting peace through strength by electing President Trump.”

State Rep.John Block (R-N.M.) said “Our President Donald J. Trump NUKED feeble, mumbling Biden tonight, and even the Radical Left is admitting what a catastrophic bloodbath it was for them.”

Former candidate for N.M. office Mark Ronchetti said he thinks “Beyond devastating night for Joe Biden”
